This year the SV 1880 Unterpörlitz, Badminton Department is celebrating its 50th anniversary. For this reason, those responsible for the club have come up with something special. They wanted to break the attendance record of the 2nd Bundesliga in badminton! So a 2nd Bundesliga game was organized in the Ilmtalsporthalle in Ilmenau, namely the match between SV Guts Muths Jena and HSG DHfK Leipzig. Because the game doesn’t necessarily attract enough people, training for children and young people was organized beforehand by the qualified squad trainer Anne Seifert. Surprisingly, quite a few girls and boys signed up for this.
So we set off from Themar in 4 cars late on Saturday morning. The training started at 12 p.m. and was very well organized. Our children and young people were totally involved and put in a lot of effort. So the 3 hours of training time flew by, with breaks of course. Afterwards we fortified ourselves properly, there were bratwursts, chicken skewers and grilled cheese with various salads or rolls, as well as all kinds of drinks.
From 4:00 p.m. the hall was filled for the main event of the evening – the Bundesliga game.
After the obligatory welcome, the guests of honor were welcomed and various awards were presented. The main players of the evening – the players from the home and away teams – were then introduced.
The game was played on 2 playing fields, which were specially designed with plastic mats. Jena immediately took the lead and was never in danger. Unfortunately, the Leipzig player had to retire injured in the last men’s singles. The Jena team were able to have a successful evening with a result of 6:1 and collect important points in the fight against relegation.
At around 7:15 p.m. we all headed home because it had been an unusually long and tiring day for many of us. But for everyone who was there, it was a great experience. The mood and atmosphere in the hall were unique for badminton in our region. I would like to see more attention for this sport in Thuringia!
