Tanvi Patri, a 13-year-old badminton sensation from India, has taken the world of junior badminton by storm. In August, she won the prestigious Asian under-15 title in Chengdu, China, making her one of the youngest Indian shuttlers to achieve international success. Trained in both China and India, Tanvi’s career reflects a combination of dedication, early discipline and natural talent.

Early life and background

Tanvi’s badminton journey began at the age of 6 in China, where her father, Rabinarayan Patri, had moved for work. Living in Kunshan, Tanvi was introduced to rigorous training methods at one of China’s major sports centers, under the guidance of coaches Zhang Lei and Wu.

He quickly learned the fundamentals, practicing hundreds of serves every day and learning agility and balance, which are the foundation of Chinese badminton training. His father remembers the intense practice routines and discipline he developed, including a robust fitness regimen that even included skating to improve his balance.

In 2020, due to the pandemic, the Patris returned to India, where Tanvi’s talent soon caught the attention of the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy (PPBA) in Bangalore. With strong fundamental skills and a growing competitive spirit, Tanvi continued her education under India’s top coaches, including U. Vimal Kumar and Sagar Chopda, who recognized her technical prowess and tenacity on the pitch.

Results and first successes.

Tanvi’s rise has been nothing short of phenomenal. After her victory at the U-15 Asian Championships, she followed up with double titles at the U-15 Nationals in Chennai, dominating the U-15 and U-17 categories. Known for her consistency, she made it through the Asian tournament without losing a single match and maintained an impressive record at Nationals, losing only once in twelve matches.
