Fritz was one of the most consistent players of the season, with an impressive 52-23 record, finishing high in the major tournaments and winning two titles, but the 27-year-old fell to Jannik Sinner in his last final and found himself struggling against the top players the tour difficult.
Although Fritz has established himself as one of the best players in the world in recent years, he has not yet managed to break through the class of Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner or Alexander Zverev. Annacone spoke about Fritz’s strategic adjustments and emphasized the importance of performing even on bad days:
“Taylor has won a lot of matches where he played average tennis, whereas before I think he was frustrated because his level wasn’t high enough,” Annacone explained. “Now he realizes, ‘I can get through these matches by playing average tennis for myself and give myself a chance to progress in the week and then I’ll play better in the big matches,'” he added. “It wasn’t one match, but a collection of all these great moments in which he became more and more comfortable and now he rightly feels that he belongs here.”
Despite these challenges, Annacone expressed his pride in Fritz’s achievements during a successful season, which he finished as world No. 4. “I’m really proud of him, the way he’s gone through his process to get to where he is now and the fact that he’s so resilient.”
