Jil Teichmann (WTA 153) will not see the semi-finals in Mérida, Mexico. The Zealander lost heavily 6-1 6-1 to the American Ann Li (111) in the quarter-finals of this WTA 250 tournament.
Qualified for the quarter-finals thanks to Ajla Tomljanovic’s injury withdrawal in the second round, Jil Teichmann did not have the shadow of a chance for her first face-to-face with Ann Li. She thus conceded seven breaks in as many service games in a game that lasted only 62 minutes.
The left-hander, who won more points on the restart (17) than on her own serve (12), will however gain around fifteen places in the hierarchy thanks to this quarter-final. She will be around 140th in the world, up from 230th in May.
