MALAGA, Spain (Reuters) – The quarter-finals of the Billie Jean King Cup (BJK Cup) finals, a women’s tennis competition between countries, were held in Malaga, Spain on the 17th, with the women’s tennis team competing against Great Britain. Slovakia advanced to the semifinals.
Great Britain faced defending champions Canada, with Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter winning the first and second singles matches in straight sets.
Since the tournament was founded in 1963, only four countries have participated in the tournament: Australia, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom, but only the United Kingdom has never won. Runner-up 4 times.
“I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t believe we could win this tournament,” Boulter said. “We have a great team and I think we always have a great chance.”
In the other match, Slovakia, who defeated 18-time champion USA to advance to the quarterfinals, won their second straight singles match and defeated Australia. Slovakia’s first top four finish was in 2002.
