Tennis: Germany loses to the Netherlands in the Davis Cup semi-finals

Germany has the semi-finals of the Davis Cup against the Netherlands lost. In Malaga, captain Michael Kohlmann’s team lost 2-0 to the Netherlands. Jan-Lennard Struff could no longer avert defeat in the second singles of the evening and narrowly lost 7:6 (7:4), 5:7, 4:6 against Tallon Griekspoor.

Daniel Altmaier had previously suffered a defeat. He had to admit defeat to Botic van de Zandschulp 4:6, 7:6 (14:12), 3:6. As in the 2-0 win against Canada in the quarter-finals, the German doubles of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz were not even used. Without top player Alexander Zverev, the DTB team once again fell short of expectations.

The Tokyo Olympic champion decided against starting in the Davis Cup after a long season and went on vacation after the ATP Finals in Turin last week.

First final for the Netherlands

For the Netherlands, however, the victory represents a historic moment: for the first time in the long history of the competition, they will reach the final. On Sunday afternoon they will meet either defending champion Italy and world number one Jannik Sinner or Australia.

The last time Germany reached the final was in 1993. At that time, the selection of the German Tennis Federation, led by Michael Stich, won against Australia and brought the Davis Cup to Germany for the third time.
