They won 2-0 against the Netherlands in Malaga, Spain, defending their title from the previous year. In his duel with Tallon Griekspoor, world number one Jannik Sinner only had to use the through ball from Matteo Berrettini, winner of the first singles of the day. With the tailwind of two Grand Slam titles and victory at the ATP Finals in Turin this year, Sinner also survived a tight initial phase. At 7:6 (7:2), 6:2 he made everything clear with a confident second set and converted his fourth match point after 1:31 hours.

Berrettini, who missed winning the title last year due to injury, had not been deterred by his opponent’s strong form. Botic van de Zandschulp was only able to stand up to the 35th in the world rankings at the beginning of the opening game. It was finally 6:4, 6:2 in favor of the Italian, who served an impressive 16 aces in just 76 minutes.

A week ago, the Italian tennis women had already won the comparable Billie Jean King Cup.
