Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz are the potential opponents if Alexander Zverev makes it through to Turin. For Sinner, the great pressure was already gone before his appearance.

As the confident group winner, crowd favorite and top favorite Jannik Sinner is playing for a place in the final at the tennis season finale in Turin. With a 6:3, 6:4 win against Russian former tournament winner Daniil Medvedev, the world number one also won the third preliminary round game. Sinner made it to the semi-finals at the ATP Finals in his home country without losing a set.

“I’m here to win as many matches as possible,” said the loudly celebrated 2024 Australian Open and US Open winner, who still faces a ban after an acquittal and two positive doping tests. “I know what I’ve achieved this season. I’m just trying to enjoy the tennis here.”

No great pressure for Sinner in the group final

Thanks to the help of the American Taylor Fritz, Sinner’s entry into the semi-finals was already certain before his final singles. Because Fritz won in three sets 5:7, 6:4, 6:3 against the Australian Alex de Minaur, the two-time Grand Slam winner could no longer be denied progression. So in the evening match for Sinner it was only about his position. Nevertheless, he showed that he took the game seriously. Apart from a brief lack of concentration in the second set, the top favorite remained confident.

With his success, Sinner once again provided support for Fritz. The US Open finalist moved into the semifinals on Saturday as second in the group with two wins.

Zverev close to semi-final qualification

Sinner and Fritz are the possible semi-final opponents for Alexander Zverev. The world number two from Hamburg leads the other group before the last preliminary round matchday on Friday. In the duel with the Spanish Wimbledon and French Open winner Carlos Alcaraz (2 p.m./Sky), Zverev can extend his season by at least one game by winning just one set.
