Tennis: Zverev is in the semi-finals of the ATP Finals

The tennis player and Olympic champion in Tokyo, Alexander Zverev, has reached the semi-finals for the fourth time at the ATP Finals. The 27-year-old beat Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz 7:6 (7:5), 6:4 in the final group game in front of 13,000 spectators after an hour and 57 minutes. He finished his group undefeated and in first place. Winning just one set was enough for Zverev to advance.

Zverev concludes the preliminary round with three wins in three appearances. It is his most successful preliminary round at the season finale so far. “Incredibly high level,” said Zverev. “I’m happy when I win.”

Zverev already managed to reach the semi-finals of the ATP Finals in 2018, 2019 and 2021. He won the tournament in 2018 and 2021. He will face US Open finalist Taylor Fritz in the semifinals on Saturday.

Whether the four-time Grand Slam tournament winner Alcaraz will also make it to the semi-finals or whether he will be eliminated will be decided in the evening in the game between the Norwegian Casper Ruud and the Russian Andrej Rublev.

The ATP Finals are endowed with $15.25 million. After the Grand Slam tournaments, they are one of the most important tennis tournaments.
