Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 9th that the ‘2024 Goyang Special City Pickleball Tournament’ was successfully held at the pickleball field located in Haengjunae-dong, Deokyang-gu.

In this tournament, hosted by the Goyang Special City Pickleball Association and sponsored by Goyang Special City, about 170 pickleball enthusiasts participated and competed to compete. At the opening ceremony on this day, Goyang Special Mayor Lee Dong-hwan and other tournament officials attended and encouraged the players.

Pickleball is a sport that combines tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It is played on a court of similar size to a badminton court, and is a game in which a set point is awarded when the player scores 11 points first. It has the advantage that anyone of any age or gender can enjoy it without any physical strain by using a light racket and a holey ball.

Although it is still an unfamiliar sport in Korea, it was selected as the No. 1 ‘fastest growing sport in the United States’ by the Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA).
