The direction of national football, today more than ever, seems uncertain. There are many conflicts in the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) after the recent arrest of the president Agustin Lozano for allegedly leading the criminal gang ‘The Galactics’ and other strong accusations.
From Videna they have taken the first step to separate the person born in Chongoyape from the highest institution of the ‘king sport’ in the country. Juan Enrique Dupuy requested the dismissal of the boss and the intervention of FIFA to form a standardization committee.
But, it was not successful. The majority of the board voted against his request. This led him to quickly submit his resignation. Dupuy was not the only one, Raúl Bao -another member who promoted Lozano’s departure- followed in his footsteps last Wednesday, November 27.
To the different positions and recent resignations on the board of directors, a new problem could be added to the FPF. A more serious one that could trigger strong consequences: Failure to pay for television rights in the Liga 1.
Ricardo Bettocchi, administrator of Melgar, gave the first warnings of this failurepointing out that their club was not paid the money to broadcast their matches during 2023. In addition, currently, they are facing a significant delay this year.
Juan Enrique Dupuy himself, who knows perfectly how the Federation is managed, explained the problem in its entirety. According to the former director, Peruvian football is on the verge of bankruptcy product of the mismanagement of Agustín Lozano and company.
As you know, 1190 Sports received permission from the FPF to negotiate the TV rights of the domestic championship after many years under the direction of the Perú Football Consortium or better known as GOLPERU. However, this company has not shown sufficient solvency.
Furthermore, according to Dupuy, 777 Partners -the fund that supported this organization- has gone bankrupt. And it is most likely that national football will face the same outcome if no measures are taken, because they have not paid the last two months of 2024.
“The supplier company, which is 1190, has not yet finished paying some clubs for October and I don’t know how they are going to pay in November with no football and I no longer want to think about December or January. The fund that fed this company, which was 777, has already gone bankrupt. Quick measures must be taken to save the imminent bankruptcy of Peruvian football,” he declared on Exitosa Deportes.
In the Federation they take measures to avoid the bankruptcy of Peruvian football, but their decisions are far from correct and even coherent. What happens is that you want to establish a new format for the next season of League 1.
This would have more matches and will necessarily have a final stage. There will be no direct champion, as in this edition there was University of Sportsand up to sixth in the accumulated table would have the opportunity to win the national title.
What the FPF and 1190 Sports are looking for is for the domestic tournament to be extended until November. At the same time, there is greater economic income, either through the incorporation of new sponsors or through the transmission of matches themselves.
