The best European athletes expected at the 29th edition of the International Judo Tournament in Monaco

The 29th edition of the Monaco International Judo Tournament (TIJM) will welcome the best European judokas to the Principality on Sunday December 8, 2024. The steering committee of the Monegasque Judo Federation has renewed the initiative taken by President Gérard Bertrand of a team tournament which has borne his name since 2015: “the Gérard Bertrand Trophy”. This 2024 edition will also be an opportunity to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Monegasque Judo Federation for its president Sophie Vincent, tournament director Florence Garcia, and national technical director François Bick, with the help of technical advisor Marcel Pietri, who also worked to create the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Federation.

Accustomed nations will be there

After the extraordinary Paris Olympic Games during which judo was able to shake up the sporting world, notably with an anthology team final which saw the victory of France at home against the Japanese, the Gaston-Médecin room, usual den of the Roca Team, will also vibrate for judo, welcoming more than 100 international judokas. Each team enters 7 fighters (one per weight category) and the first team to win 4 fights is declared the winner. The 14 teams compete in a single-elimination bracket with automatic repechage. The official entry list will be known at the beginning of December. But the accustomed nations like France, Ukraine, Georgia, Italy, Portugal, and Lithuania should be there. Without forgetting some last minute surprises as well as the French elite clubs.
