With 13 wins in their first 13 games of the 2024-25 season, the Cleveland Cavaliers are the last undefeated team in the NBA. Better yet, they are simply having one of the best starts to a season in the history of the Great League.
How far can the Cavs go in their invincibility this season? The more Cleveland wins, the more the question will come up.
By stringing together 13 victories in a row to start the current NBA campaign, Kenny Atkinson’s men are getting closer to the Top 5 for the best season starts in history.
The best season starts in NBA history
- Golden State Warriors, 24 wins in 24 games (2015-16)
- Houston Rockets, 15 wins in 15 games (1993-94)
- Washington Capitols, 15 wins in 15 games (1948-49)
- Dallas Mavericks, 14 wins in 14 games (2002-03)
- Boston Celtics, 14 wins in 14 games (1957-58)
- Cleveland Cavaliers, 13 wins in 13 games (ongoing)
In the event of a victory this Friday night against Chicago, the Cavaliers would tie the Celtics and the Mavericks. Cleveland will then host the Hornets for a potential 15th consecutive success, before a huge trip to Boston where the Cavs could well make history by achieving the second biggest series in history.
We’re not there yet, and above all we’re still very far from the Warriors’ all-time record in 2015-16. That year, the band of an unplayable Stephen Curry had not lost before his… 25th game of the season, a season at the end of which the Warriors won 73 victories in total (historic record).
5 years ago today, the Golden State Warriors became the first team to start the season 16-0.

Among the five teams still ahead of the 2024-25 version of the Cavaliers, four of them made it to the Finals (only the Mavs failed), but only one finished with the title of NBA champion (Hakeem’s Rockets Olajuwon).
