GROSSETO. Bsc 1952 loses another important piece of the Serie A team, captain Niccolò Cinelli, born in 2002, who decided to part ways with the Via Orcagna club, at the end of a beautiful journey, unforgettable for both parties.
Cinelli, receiver-outfielder, is undoubtedly the best player to emerge from the thriving academy of president Massimo Ceciarini‘s club, who in recent weeks has left the baton to Antonio Pugliese, thanks to the power of his bat and his ability to lead his teammates from behind the basic home dish. Niccolò Cinelli, Italian at the Under 23 European Championships held in Austria in 2023, has been included in the group of Olympic probables, called “Club Italia LA28” who also recently did an internship in Arizona and Florida. The now former BSC receiver accompanied the first team in its experiences, for two years in Serie B, in 2020 and 2021, and in the last three championships in Serie A, helping to take it to the top. Cinelli played a total of 147 matches in the red and white, of which 101 in the top series, with a lifetime batting average of 268, with a personal best of 329 in 2022, while in 2024 he closed on 195, with the mitigating circumstance that before arrival Di Maggi often received three matches per weekend and this certainly influenced his offensive performance. The numbers in Serie A also show 73 hits, 3 home runs and 39 runs batted in. The batting average in the two Serie B tournaments was 372.
«We want to thank Niccolò Cinelli – says the president of the BSC, Antonio Pugliese – for these years full of successes in which he wore the red and white shirt. We can only wish him the best, both sportingly and humanly, for his future career. Having said that, I would like to point out that the company will continue to work to set up a competitive roster, in line with safeguarding the budgets and enhancing the youth sector.”
The former BSC captain has received a number of offers from other top-flight teams and is evaluating the best one. Big Mat sporting director Roberto Piccioli is looking around for Cinelli’s replacement (consulting with manager Enrico Vecchi), but first he is trying to retain second baseman Tiberi, who Fiorentina likes.
