The president of the Austrian Football Federation (ÖFB), Klaus Mitterdorfer, He resigned this Thursday, amid tensions and internal disagreements, especially with the national team coach, the German Ralf Rangnick.
“Mitterdorfer has decided to leave the position of president with immediate effect,” the ÖFB reported in a brief statement published on its official website, in which it promises to decide “promptly” the next steps to be taken.
The reasons for resignation
The note is accompanied by statements from Mitterdorfer, in which the 59-year-old resigner alludes to “defamations and personal accusations of recent weeks”mainly behind the scenes, which have been “a heavy burden” for him, his family and for “the entire federation as a whole.”
“I have always tried to see the bigger picture, act constructively for the benefit of football and have a unifying effect in line with my values. I have not succeeded (or have no longer succeeded) and therefore the time has come to take the consequences,” he explains.
