The Government summons baseball programs

Saint Dominic.-In a historic inter-institutional agreement celebrated yesterday between the Ministry of Sports, the Directorate of the National Baseball Commissioner, the Ombudsman’s Office and the Office of the Major Leagues in the country (MLB), a period of 45 days was granted to the owners of independent baseball academies and programs that operate nationally, for registration.

“We want to announce to all the representatives of those special, informal or independent academies that starting today (Tuesday) we are beginning a regularization through the National Baseball Commissioner.

This is a process that will take 45 days to be regularized,” said the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz. He explained that they have until the middle of January 2025 to put their academies in order, since a letter will be sent to Major League Baseball to prevent the scouts from being able to agree with any prospect until their respective academies have started their training. due regularization process.

“In that period, the fact that it is not regularized is because it is not interested in choosing what is correct or the path that may be protected by the Law.

“We are not going to allow these fateful events to be repeated and we will do everything in our power to put an end to this,” Cruz said following the death a few months ago of prospect Ismael Ureña Pérez, after being injected with a substance for horses.

Cruz assured that one of the most important issues is the regime of consequences for those who violate due processes and that is why a meeting with the Public Ministry will be held.

Noboa values measure
For his part, Junior Noboa, National Baseball Commissioner and who will be in charge of registering the academies, valued the measures designed to help the healthy practice of baseball.

“I thank all the staff who have been working with us. I think that on our shoulders we have a great job to do, baseball is the passion, it is the king of sport in the Dominican Republic,” he said.

“Unfortunately for years and years we have been operating without any regularization, without being registered, without any certification and I believe that we definitely need that so that our baseball can continue to grow,” Noboa added during the meeting.

The director of the Ombudsman’s office, Pablo Ulloa, took part in the meeting; representatives of the Ministry of Health, the National Council for Children; Little League Commissioner, Quilvio Veras; Deputy Olfanny Méndez, president of the Sports Commission of the Chamber of Deputies and Senator Gustavo Lara, president of the Sports Commission of the Senate of the Republic; the director of Major League Baseball in the country, Yerik Pérez; the president of the Association of Independent Scouts of the Dominican Republic, Laurentino Genao, among other personalities.
