He Royal Recreational Tennis Club of Huelva received this Thursday the Gold Medal of the Province, specifically granted to the Tennis King’s Cup, which in 2025 will celebrate its 100th edition. The ceremony for the presentation of these decorations took place at the Puerta del Andévalo Theater in Valverde del Caminoattended by members of the club’s Board of Directors.
The president of the sports institution, Rafael Romero, in charge of collecting the medal, has recognized the merit and worth of all the people and institutions that have also received this distinction. “For us it is an honor to share this recognition with such illustrious winners from the world of culture, philanthropy, business and sport as those who join us today,” he expressed.
Regarding the figure of all the people who have been part of the club at some point in its centenary history and their role in achieving this achievement, Romero is very clear that “the merit belongs exclusively to the members, who have kept alive our club for 135 years, being able to celebrate and maintain the oldest tennis tournament in Spain to this day.”
Faced with this situation, the president of the club has shown his enormous satisfaction with the fact that “the political representatives of our province, again unanimously, distinguish our club as an institution that continues to do everything within its possibilities and its statutory functions to continue contributing to the development of the city and province of Huelva.” In this sense, he has indicated that just as at the time it was a very important event for the club to receive the Medal of the City of Huelva and the Medal of Andalusia, “now the Gold Medal of the Province.”
Rafael Romero has expressed his most sincere gratitude for “the immense love and support we receive from all sectors of Huelva society, which even leads us to dream of a possible candidacy for the 2025 Princess of Asturias Sports Awards, thanks especially to the support and commitment of the Provincial Council, the Huelva City Council and the Government of Andalusia.”
