18th championship title won: The Brugg judokas are back on the throne
After two years of narrow defeats, the Ju-Jitsu and Judo Club Brugg brings the Swiss team championship title back home. Coach Martin Nietlispach explains why “all the dams” broke after the victory.
After two defeats, Brugg prevailed with 5:2 victories. “We were able to maintain the positive tension that we lacked the last few times,” says Martin Nietlispach happily. They could have fought all seven fights at the top level and the two defeats were also dealt with well. After Brugg recently won the Swiss runner-up title twice, the team was now able to bring the championship trophy back to Aargau for the 18th time. “A sign of sustainable quality,” says Nietlispach.
“The team championships are about presenting as broad and strong a team as possible,” explains the coach. The fact that the club’s success is not just based on a few exceptional athletes, but on the long-term support of regional athletes is also good to see in the increasingly international competition. After the victory, “all the dams were broken,” and joy and relief were not only great among the athletes and coaches. Many regional fans traveled to Geneva and celebrated with the team. “I am extremely proud of our team,” emphasizes Martin Nietlispach.
