The Astra Theater in Vicenza inaugurates its evening season with the return of award-winning Spanish company MR. SERRANO. L8 November 2024, the show “THE MOUNTAIN“it will in fact start the season”Terrestrials 2024-2025“, organized by La Piccionaia for Municipality of Vicenza.
THE MOUNTAIN OF THE SEÑOR SERRANO COMPANY – a metaphorical journey in search of the truth
«There is a widely spread image that traces the history of ideas – explains the company when introducing the show – climbing a mountain, overcoming the difficulties to reach the top and, once there, seeing the world “as it is”. Therefore, reach the truth and not just shadows and reflections. But is it really like that? Does the truth exist?”.
The metaphor of life becomes the soul of a show: the widely spread image of climbing a mountain is the beginning of a search, the exploratory journey into the truth. But is there really a world to see? What is the truth? Often when looking from above you see nothing but clouds and fog covering everything or a landscape that changes depending on the time of day or weather. Is the truth a peak to be crowned and that’s it, or rather a cold and inhospitable path that must be continually followed?
The first Everest expedition converged on The Mountain, the outcome of which is still uncertain today; Orson Welles wreaking havoc with his radio show The War of the Worlds; badminton players playing baseball; a fake news website; a drone scanning the audience; lots of snow; mobile screens; fragmented images; and Vladimir Putin who speaks with satisfaction about trust and truth.
A network of ideas, stories, images, actions and concepts underlies the dramaturgical framework of The Mountain. With materials, unfolded in layers that mix, creating unexpected connections, the show presents itself as a mapless exploration of the myth of truth: the protagonists of a dramaturgy that rides the history of the last 100 years help to explore the truth and its credibility .
QUESTIONING YOURSELF ABOUT HUMAN BEINGS WITH THE TERRESTRIAL REVIEW
The program of the Terrestri 24.25 exhibition opens with THE MOUNTAIN by the Catalan company Mr. Serrano and will continue with I WOULD LIKE A VOICE by Tindaro Granata (November 22, 2024), a monologue that explores the dreams and hopes of a secluded community through Mina’s songs. THE GREAT VOID by Fabiana Iacozzilli (12 December 2024) will tell the story of the dissolution of a family in parallel with the deterioration of the memory of its forefather, transforming pain into beauty and resistance. The season will then continue with CHRISTMAS IN CASA CUPIELLO dei Theaters of Naples (January 25, 2025), an innovative reinterpretation of Eduardo De Filippo’s classic work with puppetry. The show was winner of the 2023 Ubu Award for best costumes
Marta Cuscuna with CORVIDAE SGUARDI DI SPECIE (7 February 2025) will invite a critical reflection on the human impact on the planet thanks to a performance for an actress and mechanical crows. FIRE WAS THE CURE of Underground (February 21, 2025) will reinterpret the classic FAHRENHEIT 451 by Bradburyexploring the value of culture and reading. LUISA by Valentina Dal Mas (7 March 2025), winner of the 2023 Suburban Scenario Award, will tell the story of the resilience and beauty hidden in the human soul through the metaphor of sewing. SELF-PORTRAIT (March 21, 2025), the new work by David Enia will offer a powerful foray into the world of the Sicilian mafia, reflecting on brutality and sacrifice. The ANONIMA SEQUESTRI review will close Leonardo Tomasi (4 March 2025), winner of the 2023 Scenario Prize, with a show that will explore identity through metatheatrical mechanisms.
In addition to the subscription shows, the Terrestri festival will host the show THE DOOZIES (23 April 2025) with Marta dalla Via and Silvia Gribaudiorganized by the Fondazione Teatro Comunale Città di Vicenza as part of the event Places of Contemporary Dance.
