Next weekend, the Municipal Sports Institute (Imdeco) launches the Municipal Sports Games for the 24-25 season, games that are in their 40th edition and will have the participation of more than 6,000 athletes, figures similar to those of last year.
In total there are 13 modalities that will be played within this program that is committed to grassroots sports, specifically chess, athletics, badminton, basketball, handball, indoor soccer, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis and volleyball.
The main team sports (basketball, handball, indoor soccer and volleyball) are those that accumulate the bulk of registration. There are a total of 371 teams between these four modalities, 4.6% more than in the 23-24 campaign, in which there were 355, and 13.3% more compared to 22-23. Futsal has 146 teams, followed by volleyball (101), basketball (96) and handball (28). Participation in team sports is completed by tennis (14) and table tennis (7). In total there are 392 teams registered in the six types of team sports.
In the individual sports modalities, 47 teams have registered: chess (2), athletics (12), badminton (4), rhythmic gymnastics (21), judo (3), swimming (3) and taekwondo (2).
The calendar of the Municipal Games contemplates that they be held until the month of May. During the first weeks there will be activity in basketball, handball, indoor soccer and volleyball. The other nine sports will gradually be incorporated. The sports federations are in charge of organizing the competition and refereeing in each modality.
The deputy mayor, delegate of Sports and president of Imdeco, Marian Aguilar, has shown her satisfaction with the high participation that the Municipal Sports Games have and has indicated that the priority objective of Imdeco when organizing them “is to promote participation , fair play and the educational and training values that sports practice entails.”
