“The Municipality diverted the 4 million elsewhere”

The M5S regional deputy Adriano Varrica denounces the defunding by the Municipality of over 4 million euros of CIPE funds intended for the redevelopment of Marinella, a project that should have led to the creation of green areas, sports fields and a cycle/pedestrian path.

“A year ago – declares Adriano Varrica – Mayor Lagalla announced with great fanfare that he had saved over 4 million euros for the creation of sports greenery and cycle/pedestrian paths at Marinella. Today, however, the documents tell a different story: his Administration abandoned the project.”

In fact, the funds were allocated by the Municipality to the completion of the Patti cross-country sports citadel for functional works on the baseball field. “The project for the construction of public green areas in the Marinella area – explains Lagalla – involved the completion of passages, in particular between the Municipality and RFI, which would have jeopardized compliance with the deadlines for the use of the sums. The Municipality cannot afford the luxury of losing external funding, especially if it involves a considerable amount like this, and I am satisfied that the administration, in particular the department and the public works offices which I thank, has proven far-sighted, asking the Presidency in time of the Council the remodulation of the 4 million on the works to complete the Citadel of sport, where work has already started. A request that the Presidency deemed consistent with the funds from the suburbs tender, giving the green light to the use of the over 4 million on the Citadel.” .

Varrica recalls, however, the work carried out in past years to make the Marinella intervention possible: “During the Conte II Government – says Varrica – I was the promoter of the recovery of this project, of the related financing and of the start of the dialogue with RFI on the use of the former railway site, with the aim of connecting the neighborhood to the Tommaso Natale station on the occasion of the visit of Undersecretary Villani a year ago, it seemed that Lagalla had understood the importance of the work done to bring. completed this project but it is clear that it was yet another catwalk. For the current mayor and his council, the citizens of Marinella are second class citizens”.

“With the council group and the district councilors Giovanni Galioto and Simone Aiello, we have filed a question to ask for new resources so as not to lose this important intervention”, concludes Varrica.
