The coach of the national basketball team, Labib Al Hamrani, affirmed Thursday in Salé that the national elements are determined to make every effort to qualify for Afrobasket 2025 (CAN).
In a statement to MAP, on the sidelines of a training session of the national team, Al Hamrani indicated that “Morocco is placed in a strong group alongside South Sudan, a real phenomenon of continental basketball in recent years, from DR Congo and Mali”, adding that this will be a motivation for his players to show themselves at the top of their level.
He stressed that preparing the national team roster was not an easy task due to time constraints, explaining that “as soon as the Royal Moroccan Basketball Federation received the invitation to participate in the qualifiers, we “We have worked on preparing the list of players who will represent Morocco in this competition.”
After emphasizing that “lack of time prevented three players who play in the United States from joining the final list, in addition to three others suffering from illness preventing them from training with the group”, he noted that the composition of the national team includes young players, some of whom participated in the African U18 Championship.
For his part, the national technical director, Hicham Ouahidi, indicated that the preparations of the national elements concern all psychological, physical, technical and tactical aspects, noting that the national selection, which combines experience and youth, is enthusiastic to begin these playoffs with a new dynamic.
National team player Yassine El Mahsini, for his part, indicated that the national team intensified its training during the week with two sessions per day to make up for the lack of time, affirming that the players are ready to defend their chances and punch their qualification ticket.
Qualifications for Afrobasket 2025 take place in two phases, the first of which is scheduled for November 22 to 24 in Senegal.
