The champions of the present and those of the future. They are those celebrated and awarded on the occasion of the event organized and promoted by the Panathlon International Club Clitunno, supported by the patronage of the Municipality of Trevi within the museum complex of San Francesco in the same Umbrian village.
An event, that of Sunday 10th November, conceived and set up with the aim of celebrating those young people and those realities who, through their commitment in the sporting world, have demonstrated and are demonstrating that they can make a difference and be able to raise the honor of the Green Heart of Italy.
For the occasion, in fact, in front of the mayors of the municipalities in the area and the highest regional authorities, two of the athletes who represented Umbria at the Paris 2024 Olympics were honored: Agnese Duranti, born in 2000, for rhythmic gymnastics, and Diego Lenzi, born in 2001, for super heavyweight boxing. “We chose Agnese and Diego – the president of the Clitunno Club, Claudio Menichelli, commented during the event – because, almost the same age, they have been our regional and national pride for years, with the many medals won at the world championships and the Olympic ones of Tokyo and Paris while Diego is our hope, a promise that will certainly be kept.
Both – he concluded – represent our land with honor and defend the colors of Italy in the world”.
The two Olympic athletes were not, however, the only objects of the audience’s attention. During the evening the Clitunno Club also awarded four scholarships to the young athletes of the area considered most deserving by a commission made up of the Club members, Fabio Pantalla, new president of Fidal Umbria, Giorgio Fusaro, president of Atletica Winner Asd Foligno and Maria Cristina Narcisi, member of Atletica Winner and co-owner of Narcisi Auto, is among the companies that supported the initiative. The three not only evaluated the sporting merits of the young athletes, but also their scholastic and social paths. The four boys awarded were: Riccardo Mignozzetti for shooting, Lucrezia Mancini for swimming, Francesco Cesarini for judo and Giulio Moriconi for athletics. The sports clubs these young people belong to were also awarded, in order: Asd Tav Foligno, Asd Spoleto Nuoto, Judo Kodokan Spello and Atletica Winner Foligno.
