The final of the Neighborhoods Cup took place at the Unipol Domus, a sports education project aimed at young people from lower secondary schools in the capital and its hinterland. 200 girls and boys from four neighborhoods of Cagliari (Piazza Giovanni, San Michele-Is Mirrionis, Sant’Elia, Stampace-Marina) and the municipalities of Assemini, Elmas, Maracalagonis, Sestu and Sinnai took part.
The athletes, divided into the categories of first, second and eighth grade, competed in badminton, football, volleyball and exciting relay races, becoming bearers of the values of friendship and fair play.
The 2024 Neighborhoods Cup, now in its ninth edition and characterized by record participation of over 950 athleteswas promoted by Cagliari Calcio and the Carlo Enrico Giulini Foundation, with the support of USR Sardegna, MSP Sardegna, ASD Marabadminton, with the patronage of Sport and Health and the Guarantor for Children and Adolescents of the Sardinia Region. All with the contribution of Fondazione Sardegna, Despar and TO Smile, the main partner of the event.
Many young people in the stands, accompanied by teachers and families. There was no shortage of surprises for them, with the involvement of numerous guests: Cagliari players Leonardo Pavoletti, Alessandro Deiola, Nicolas Viola, Nadir Zortea and Jakub Jankto, led by Davide Nicola; the Sardinian trio formed by Simone Aresti, Marco Mancosu and Francesco Pisano; Roberto Muzzi and Fabio Pisacane, Primavera coach. Present were Nicola Riva, Jacopo Cullin, Dalia Kaddari, Giorgio Pitzianti, the Pink Flamingos, Mattia Cerrito and the highly acclaimed Gianfranco Zola.
Each guest brought a message aimed at the boys and girls present, inviting them to experience sport in a healthy way, respecting their opponents and above all having fun.
The winners of the 2024 Neighborhood Cup were Sinnai for the first and second middle school category and Maracalagonis for the third middle school category. “It was an extraordinary event,” said the sports councilor of the Municipality of Sinnai, Alessio Serra. «It is satisfying to see our kids compete with their peers in the name of loyalty, equality, respect and friendship, values that are acquired above all through sport».
