The taisoliterally “to move your body” in Japanese, is an essential warm-up for athletes in the land of the rising sun. This discipline, which is based on muscle strengthening, is now accessible to all at the gymnasium of Val-au-Perche (Orne), including those who have never tasted martial arts.

Taiso allows you to work the whole body

Attractive, friendly and reassuring, there is no fall, no blow or violent action, the taiso appeals to families. “The goal is not to produce bodybuilding champions, this sporting practice is for everyone,” explains Pierre-François Hubertgraduate and judoka. “Whether it’s cardio, flexibility, coordination, we’re talking more about muscle strengthening. »

The goal is to work the whole body. Afterwards, some will naturally evolve towards Jiu-jitsu or judo, while maintaining this activity as a warm-up method, but it is not at all an obligation.

No fight, no competition

Taiso has existed for a hundred years in Japan, but it is not, strictly speaking, a martial art.

Starting salute, ending salute, judo vocabulary, the codes are quite similar, but without the combat side and there is no competition.

“Access to the brand new Angélique Duriez dojo also helps to put you in an atmosphere that is as martial as it is warm. One evening a week, some after work, we also get together to unwind and have a good time together. It is an intergenerational practice, with parent-child duos. The ideal is to start around 14 years old, there is no age limit.”

Well-being and good atmosphere

To date, a hard core of around ten regular practitioners, a number that could easily double, meets for very dense one-hour sessions every Monday evening.

It is possible to adapt the exercises, we adjust the program to each person.

“Some come from other sports to do physical preparation, support, coordination, or even reathletics. In any case, the efforts are measured and quantifiable. Everyone leaves class happy to be tired and to have sweated, in a good mood. »

Classes on Mondays from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (except school holidays) at the Angélique Duriez dojo, rue du Collège, Le Theil-sur-Huisne. Information: Judo Club de Val-au-Perche at 06 80 38 45 36. Facebook: Judo Club Val-Au-Perche
