The last time the big prize money was paid out at the ATP Finals was in 2024. tennis MAGAZIN looks back on the 2024 season and has listed the ten tennis players with the highest prize money this year.
Jannik Sinner in another dimension
The world number one has been almost unstoppable this year. Although his biggest competitor, Carlos Alcaraz, won two Grand Slam titles, he has no chance against Sinner when it comes to prize money. In total, the South Tyrolean earned around 17 million US dollars on the ATP tour. This includes, for example, over two million US dollars from the Australian Open triumph, 3.6 million US dollars from the US Open title and almost five million US dollars from winning the ATP finals. In addition to the tour prize money, Jannik Sinner also earned six million US dollars at the Six Kings Slam in Saudi Arabia, which he also won.
Alcaraz vor Zverev
Unlike the world rankings, Carlos Alcaraz is in second place in terms of prize money. This is mainly due to the sums he was able to make by winning the French Open and the title at Wimbledon. Together he earned around six million US dollars there. In total, the Spaniard has a season’s prize money of $9.85 million.
Alexander Zverev, on the other hand, brought in almost nine million US dollars. The current number two in the world is still waiting for his first Grand Slam title. At the French Open this year he failed in the final against Alcaraz. In addition to the final, Zverev mainly earned money from the Masters victories in Rome and Paris as well as from the semi-finals at the ATP Finals and the Australian Open.
Taylor Fritz with a strong final spurt to the season – also in the prize money
Before the US Open, very few people expected that the American Taylor Fritz would earn the fourth most prize money in 2024. However, he reached the final of the Grand Slam on home soil, where he was paid $1.8 million. In addition, he was in the final of the ATP Finals, which earned him an additional $2.25 million. Over the entire season he has prize money of seven million US dollars.
Daniil Medvedev takes fifth place in this ranking. In contrast to Fritz, the Russian was more convincing in the first half of the season. Among other things, he reached the final of the Australian Open, the final of Indian Wells and the semi-finals of Wimbledon. In total it grossed $5.6 million.
Sixth place in the ranking for the highest prize money of the season goes to Casper Ruud. The former number two in the world was victorious at the 500 ATP in Barcelona. He also reached the final of Monte Carlo and the semi-finals of the French Open. In addition to his strong results on clay, he also reached the semi-finals at the ATP Finals. In the end, the Norwegian won around five million US dollars in prize money.
Djokovic only in seventh place
The undisputed number one in the all-time prize money ranking could only reach seventh place in the prize money ranking in 2024. Of the 4.4 million US dollars he earned, he earned almost 1.8 million US dollars at Wimbledon alone when he reached the final of the grass classic. Otherwise, the Serb can look back on a used season. At the Australian Open he failed in the semi-finals, he had to give up the French Open after the round of 16 due to injury and at the US Open it was over in round three. Djokovic canceled the ATP Finals due to injury. The Djoker celebrated his only tournament victory at the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
Close race for eighth place in the prize money ranking
Andrey Rublev is behind Novak Djokovic. The Russian earned around $4.1 million in a rather mixed season. The bright spots were the victory at the Madrid Masters and the final at the National Bank Open in Canada.
Alex de Minaur only collected $50,000 less in 2024. The Australian, who was plagued by injuries, impressed above all with his consistency in the Grand Slam tournaments. In addition to the round of 16 at the Australian Open, he reached the quarterfinals of three other major tournaments. He also won the ATP 500 in Acapulco.
The Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas is in tenth place in this category. Just like Andrey Rublev, Tsitsipas also had a mixed season with one bright spot in the form of a Masters title. So he was victorious in Monte Carlo. As a result of the weak season, the Greek missed the ATP finals for the first time since 2019. In terms of prize money, it was enough for around 3.5 million US dollars.
