the Valencian Country is preparing to try to force the resignation of Carlos Mazón

ValenciaMore cornered every day, the pressure to bring down Carlos Mazón as president of the Generalitat Valenciana does not stop and a demonstration in Valencia – in parallel there will also be mobilizations in Alicante and Elche, among other cities – wants to give the final push this Saturday. Even the state leadership of the PP is raising its profile and the first requests for responsibilities have already arrived baron popular ones such as that of the Galician president, Alfonso Rueda, of the utmost confidence of Alberto Núñez Feijóo. The last ingredient that was missing to finish promoting the call of 48 entities that demand the “immediate resignation” of Mazón is the fact that while the DANA was ravaging the Valencian Country, he was having lunch for more than three hours with the journalist Maribel Vilaplana for unsuccessfully proposing to him that he direct À Punt. This made him arrive more than two hours late for the meeting of the operative. “The tragedy was avoidable”, stressed this Friday several representatives of the convening associations, who described the management of the Valencian executive as “negligent and criminal”.

The mobilization is promoted by organizations such as Acció Cultural del País Valenciana, Intersindical Valenciana, CGT or Escola Valenciana and has the support of political parties such as Compromís, Podemos or Esquerra Unida. On the contrary, the PSPV and UGT – and the PP and Vox – have chosen not to join the protest. In the case of CCOO, they have preferred not to adhere to the manifesto, but they have encouraged participation in the march.

The march will go from 6pm through the streets of the Valencian capital to the Palau de la Generalitat to denounce that the members of Mazón’s government are “pure incompetents”. “It is unsustainable that he is in government for one more day”, reiterated the spokespersons of the entities, Anna Oliver, Ana Mar Bueno, Beatriu Cardona and Toni Valero. The tense climate and the anger against Mazón’s management are reflected in the very poster of the call, with the president upside down. This will not be the only mobilization, but it will be “the first” and the convenors warn that they will not rest until the Generalitat Valenciana “stops being an inept person”. In any case, the organizations have called for the mobilization to be “silent” for “respect for the victims” and bearing in mind that the objective is to detect and isolate the extreme right.

Attendance at the demonstration will be conditioned by the strong restrictions on mobility that the metropolitan area of Valencia still suffers with the closure of motorways such as the A-7, kilometer-long traffic jams on the main access roads to the city such as the V-30 or the V-31, or the absence of rail transport, both metro and suburban. In addition, it is likely that many of the affected people and volunteers will prioritize cleaning up the affected villages over attending the protest.
