He’s back! Launched at the end of last season, our 100% NBA podcast, in collaboration between RTBF and DH/Sports, returns for a 2nd season. And after a focus on our two Belgians and on the express integration of Ajay Mitchell in OKC, the NBA Give and Go team focused on a major question: can the phenomenon Victor Wembanyama be an All-Star from its 2nd season?
As usual, Benoît Peeters (DH) et Antoine Hick (RTBF) faced off in a 1-on-1 debate at the end of the show. The debate was therefore as follows: Will Wembanyama be one of the 12 elected next February?
The first to jump into the arena was Benoît Peeters. For him, Wemby will not be not All-Starhere are his arguments: “For the moment, his stats are all down but what scares me is his style of play. He announced that he was going to have a season where he was going to be more impactful in the racket, closer to the ‘ring. But we see at the start of the season that even when he has defenders who are 30 centimeters shorter, he cannot move them inside. He therefore relies a lot on his three-point shot which is very delicate. I wonder where he will manage to take the plunge this season. Will he know how to do it? And then, I redid the list of contenders for the All-Star Game, in its place, there are Jokic, Davis, Sabonis and why not Holmgren. We have often pitted them against each other and for the moment, Chet seems to have the upper hand. Going for an All-Star place in the West will be difficult, at least if he remains in trouble like that. Is he already looking for a second wind? He’s going to have to find it very quickly if he wants to be an All-Star.”
For his part, Antoine Hick is good more optimistic concerning the Frenchman, who had just made his mark (at the time of recording) by already releasing his 2nd Five by Five in his career: “He’s going to be an All-Star. He came out of the worst game of his career, he gets criticized and the next night he comes back, back-to-back, and he does a five by five that’s super rare in the NBA. He becomes only the 3rd player in history to achieve several 5 by 5s, even though he has not even played 100 matches in his career. He can be improved but he already has something going for him, that’s what it is. already a star. He’s a star that people get up at night for, he’s a star that people go to the stadium for. And what are we looking for at the All-Star Game? are people who put on a show, who stand out from the crowd and who do things that others don’t do. If there’s one person on this planet who does things that others don’t do, it’s him. Last season, at this time, he was already mentioned among the candidates when he had a very bad start to the season, now he is going to gain momentum. He is still in 2nd gear, when he goes into 4th gear. he will be an indisputable All-Star. I even get wet saying that he could be a Starter in the All-Star Game by being chosen by the public.”
So, Wemby at the All-Star Game, credible possibility or total heresy? Watch the debate on the Frenchman from the 46th minute in the video at the top of the article.
