The girls of Soria Baloncesto are struggling with their first victory in their fourth consecutive season in the First Women’s Division of Spanish basketball. The team led by the Galician Alberto Vázquez was defeated on Sunday, at the San Andrés sports center, by the University of Burgos-Babieca (47-51) just two days after falling in Mieres (Asturias), by 75-43, against the École-BVM 2012. With seven setbacks in as many days, the women’s squad of Club Soria Baloncesto closes the classification, tied with Contienes Castro Baloncesto Venta de Baños de Palencia, which is the other team that has not yet won.
A duel marked in red for the Soria team was under control, which enjoyed a nine-point lead at the beginning of the last quarter. However, three terrible minutes – the last three – condemned the Sorianas. When they were leading by six points, they saw an unsportsmanlike foul called in their favor. This action could have decided the match in favor of Semillas Adolfo Martínez, for whom everything went wrong. He missed both free throws, lost the ball on the ensuing throw-in, the Burgos players scored a simple basket and the locals’ hand shrank. The CSB will play its next match on Saturday, at 7:30 p.m., in the Asturian Covadonga Group fiefdom.
