The largest festival of Korean soft tennis (tennis) enthusiasts was held in a splendid manner with the support of the best prestigious schools and meccas.

The ‘2024 NH Nonghyup Bank Soft Tennis Club Championship’ was held for two days on the 23rd and 24th at the public stadium court in Sunchang-gun, Jeollabuk-do. 300 representatives from 17 cities and provinces across the country competed in the competition to end the year.

Gyeonggi Province (Chairman Shim Jae-hyun) won against Daegu Metropolitan City (Chairman Noh Dong-seop) with a match score of 5 to 4 in the final on the 24th. He won the prize money of 5 million won.

In this tournament, which was held in 9 doubles matches, Gyeonggi-do boasted a solid power, with 54 players participating and being divided into groups A and B. Team A rose to the top and once again proved to be the strongest.

Gyeonggi-do Soft Tennis Association President Shim Jae-hyeon expressed his feelings with pride, saying, “In our Gyeonggi-do, about 500 people consistently enjoy soft tennis. It’s a fun sport, and I’ve won often, but it’s always fun.” He also expressed his wish, saying, “Our sport is being activated in Gyeonggi, Gyeongbuk, and Daegu, and I hope that will happen in other regions as well.”

In this competition, former athletes also participated and performed at a high level. The players from Sunchang Jeil High School, who were the referees for this tournament, said, “Not to mention the elite players, the level of the club members has become as high as the players.”

Korean soft tennis won the overall championship at the 17th Anseong World Soft Tennis Championships held in Anseong, Gyeonggi-do last September, beating rivals such as Japan and Taiwan. They achieved valuable results with Lee Min-seon, who won three gold medals in women’s singles, doubles, and team competition, Moon Hye-kyung (NH Nonghyup Bank), who won two consecutive mixed doubles titles, and Kim Beom-jun (Mungyeong City Hall), who won mixed doubles gold medals together.

In this atmosphere, Korean soft tennis is expected to continue its strong performance, with Mungyeong-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do successfully hosting the 18th World Championships in 2027. NH Nonghyup Bank, a renowned institution in Korea’s soft tennis tradition, and Sunchang-gun, which holds the international tournament Sunchang Open, sponsored 35 million won and 20 million won, respectively, for this club’s best match to expand the base of the sport.
