SHe only climbed the last eight-thousander, the Shishapangma, on his second attempt. A year earlier he had failed like many others – but Nima Rinji Sherpa, then 17 years old, survived the tour. Two American mountaineers and their Sherpa guides were buried in avalanches. Nima Rinji Sherpa was still near the base camp at the time. That was his luck.
