“Then you won’t do anything in the Bundesliga”

Third Bundesliga defeat in a row for FC Blau-Weiß Linz. There was nothing for the Stahlstadters to gain from Wiener Austria either (to the match report >>>).

Linz didn’t start the game badly at all and went into the dressing room as the leaders thanks to Simon Seidl‘s goal. “We did very, very well in the first half. It wasn’t undeserved that we took a 1-0 lead – an ideal score at the break,” said head coach Gerald Scheiblehner.

But the Blue and White couldn’t hold on to the lead: “We then gave the game away relatively easily. We were too wild and lost our heads after the 1-1 draw. That shouldn’t happen, but it does happen to a team that hasn’t yet has so much routine. It’s always about the performance. It’s good, but not good enough to survive against an opponent like Austria today.”

Show performance over 90 minutes

Captain Fabio Strauss also sees things similarly in the “Sky” interview: “If you don’t perform well for 90 minutes, then you won’t do anything in the Bundesliga. We simply have to maintain the performance that we sometimes show over a longer period of time. (…) It’s just bitter that we’ve lost so much now.”

Strauss came into the game in the second half for the injured Martin Moormann. The Linz captain’s contract expires in the summer of 2025, and an extension does not seem unlikely. Things “look quite good” and the first discussions have already been held.

The next task for Linz is to welcome FC Red Bull Salzburg on Sunday (2:30 p.m.) and want to end their winless streak. The last threesome was in September, when Altach was beaten 1-0 away.
