The Dutch national team qualified as number two for the quarter-finals of the Nations League on Saturday. A day later it became clear that Ronald Koeman’s team will compete against France, Portugal or Spain.
Although Germany also starts the draw in Pot 1, the Netherlands cannot be linked to Julian Nagelsmann’s formation in the quarter-finals. Countries that played against each other in the group stage will be excluded from each other for the draw for the next round.
Spain and Portugal, like the Germans, were already assured of first place in their group. With a victory against Italy, France joined both countries on the Iberian Peninsula. The Blues had to win by two goals at San Siro to take over the lead and they did so.
The quarter-finals of the Nations League are scheduled for March 2025, with the Final Four scheduled for a few months later in June. These are, other than the quarter-finals, single matches. The victory over Hungary not only reached the Final Eight, the Dutch team also became group leader in the draw for the World Cup qualifying cycle.
