Including ‘Major’ Australia-US Open wins
Top 8 tournaments this season, ‘most wins on tour’
Jannik Sinner (23, Italy), who confirmed his No. 1 ranking in the world at the end of the year, also won the Men’s Professional Tennis (ATP) Finals trophy. Sinner defeated Taylor Fritz (27, USA, world No. 5) 2-0 (6-4, 6-4) in the singles final of the ATP Finals held in Turin, Italy on the 18th. The ATP Finals is a king-of-the-match tournament in which only the top eight ranked players of the season are invited. Sinner is the first Italian player to win this competition, which has been held since 1970. Sinner, who made history in front of his home fans, said, “Personally, it is even more meaningful because it is my first time winning in Italy.” Sinner reached the finals of this tournament last year, but lost to Novak Djokovic (37, Serbia, 7th) and had to be content with second place. Djokovic did not participate in this year’s tournament due to injury. Carlos Alcaras (21, Spain, 3rd place), who is considered one of the top three men’s tennis players along with Sinner and Djokovic, was eliminated in the group stage of this tournament.
Sinner has won trophies a total of eight times this season, including the major tournaments, the Australian Open and the US Open. He is the most successful player on the ATP Tour this season. “It was an amazing season,” Sinner said. “The season couldn’t end better than this.”
