Since the election of Donald Trump At the beginning of November, celebrations for the future US President are particularly common in the sports world in the United States: players recently celebrate touchdowns or goals with the so-called Trump dance.

They alternately move their arms forward again and again and wiggle their hips slightly – and somewhat bumpily. A reference to Trump, who repeatedly did the dance at campaign events and made the audience cheer.

NFL has “no problem” with Trump cheering

But isn’t the dance actually a political statement and therefore banned in some US sports leagues? At least the National Football League (NFL) has now taken a position on this.

The Trump celebration was “not a problem,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told “Front Office Sports.” Regarding the broadcasting TV networks, McCarthy further stated: “It’s up to the networks to report it as they see fit.”

According to the rules, cheers are only prohibited if they are excessive or contain violent or sexually suggestive acts. However, none of this is the case with the Trump dance; the cheering is not seen as a political statement.

The situation is different when NFL players make such a statement with their clothing. This most recently happened to Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers: The defensive end was fined $11,255 by the NFL after showing up at a game wearing a “Make America Great Again” cap.
