The Colombian 3×3 basketball teams had an outstanding start in the Ayacucho 2024 Bolivarian Bicentennial Games, with three victories in the same number of games. Both men’s and women’s groups demonstrated their preparation by dominating their rivals on the first day of competition, consolidating themselves as leaders in their respective groups.
In the women’s division, Colombia beat Guatemala with a score of 21-9. The players Jenifer Muñoz, Yuliany Paz, Carolina López and Valentina López, under the direction of coach Ricardo Pinzón, showed an effective game and secured their first victory in Pool A. This victory positioned them favorably to face Chile tomorrow in a duel for the leadership of the group and the pass to the semifinals.
For its part, the men’s team closed the day with two resounding victories: 21-11 against Bolivia and 22-14 against Ecuador. The players Rodrigo Peña, Yesid Mosquera, José Lozano and Sebastián Valencia, led by coach Luis Cuenca, dominated both matches and finished undefeated leaders of group A. Colombia accumulated a total of 43 scores, being the team with the most points achieved on the day inaugural. In addition, Rodrigo Peña stood out as the top scorer of the tournament so far, with 17 baskets.
In the standings, the men’s branch leads its group with 100 points, followed by Chile, Ecuador and Bolivia, while in the women’s branch, Colombia shares the lead with Chile. Tomorrow, November 28, the Colombian men’s and women’s teams will face Chile in key matches to consolidate their undefeated record and advance, with the best options, to the next phase.
