LAUSANNE (Switzerland) – As we enter the final year before the start of the FIBA ​​U19 Basketball World Cup 2025 in Switzerland, a ceremony was held to unveil the TISSOT countdown and the competition logo.

The major youth tournament will take place from June 28 to July 6, 2025 in the city of Lausanne. Sixteen teams will be fighting for the world title at the end of this highly anticipated event which will bring together the best young players in the world.

To mark the entry into the 365 days before the start of the competition, the City of Lausanne and TISSOT, global partner and official timekeeper of FIBA ​​and Swiss Basketball, unveiled the traditional TISSOT countdown, installed at the Lausanne train station. Lausanne. This is the first time that such an installation has been set up for a youth event. Every day, around 150,000 people use this station, enough to ensure great promotion of the competition.

Swiss Basketball obtained the right to organize this event thanks in particular to the support of the City of Lausanne, Olympic Capital, and the Canton of Vaud – which is also home to the Maison du Basketball Patrick Baumann, headquarters of FIBA.

This tournament will be added to a long list of international sporting events organized by Lausanne, for example the FIBA ​​3×3 World Tour, the Winter Youth Olympic Games and a stage of the Tour de France.

Those invited to the ceremony were also able to attend the launch of the new logo and visual identity of the competition.

Developed by a Swiss agency, it combines international appeal with national identity. Paying homage to the host country with its instantly recognizable red and white, it features the trophy at its center, surrounded by Swiss symbols such as the edelweiss, the Swiss cross, the mountains and Lake Geneva.

This visual identity, with its contemporary and innovative design, also gives pride of place to Switzerland’s cultural and natural heritage, while reflecting the young and dynamic spirit of the competition.

FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis comments: “Today marks an important milestone. This upcoming edition of the FIBA ​​U19 Basketball World Cup promises to be special for many reasons.

“Iconic players who took part in the Olympic Tournament, the FIBA ​​World Cup or who won an NBA title have participated in the past. Thus, basketball fans in the Lausanne region will have a unique opportunity to see the most promising basketball players of tomorrow at work, who embody the future of our sport.

“It will also be the first time that our major youth competition will take place in Switzerland, not far from FIBA ​​headquarters. In addition, this edition of the world tournament will be played in the year of the 90th anniversary of the first edition of FIBA ​​EuroBasket, organized in Geneva in 1935.”

Sixteen national teams, who will qualify based on their ranking at the end of the 2024 FIBA ​​U18 Continental Cups, will compete in Lausanne in the summer of 2025.
