The reality of professional sport it is very different if we compare Italy, but also the whole of Europe, to the United States of America. While here, and let’s take as an example the maximum sporting attractiveness, namely football, those who want to reach the highest level, namely Serie A, must go through a sort of Dante’s journey wandering among youth teams, benches and minor series , on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean climbing works in a different way.

A meritocratic dream which sees the most promising high school kids in America go, thanks to scholarship offers for sporting merit, to the best US colleges, and then – if expectations are maintained – to attend the famous draft. Event in which professional teams, whether NBA (basketball), MLB (baseball) or NFL, and other “minor” disciplines such as hockey, select the best young people by offering them a contract, thus making them definitively enter the Olympus of sports a stars and stripes.

Ok, it doesn’t always work this way, both for the Old Continent and for America, but in broad terms it does. And it is something very distant from our sporting culture, just as the functioning of American football is also distant. In recent years this discipline has seen its base of enthusiasts grow here in Europe too, and especially in Italy. Yet, for many it continues to be dark terrain. However, an exception must be made some faces.

One, who has become a real star in recent months, is Travis Kelce, tight end of the Kansas City Chiefs, or the boyfriend of global pop star Taylor Swift. The other, however, is the aforementioned Tom Brady, certainly one of the most representative players in history of the NFL.

But if it’s not the oval ball that unites us with Brady, what does is his passion for the hands. Yes, the Goat (Greatest of all Time) of American football is a great lover of timepieces, and especially luxurious and super exclusive ones. Just like his very sumptuous Rolex in limited edition which is going to be sold via auction from Sotheby’sand which is part of a lot called “GOAT Collection: Watches and Treasures from Tom Brady“. Here’s which one clock it’s about…

The Goat auction, in every sense. A lot full of surprises, and with a stunning timepiece

For decades, the NFL legend has preserved historic memorabilia from his unparalleled career, along with an exceptional watch collection. Now, for the first time, he is ready to share, in an auction at Sotheby’s.

Therefore, part of this immense and luxurious lot are some timepieces that have written the history ofhigh watchmaking. We are talking about models of the caliber Rolex Daytona Paul Newman REF.6241an example that is almost impossible to find on the market, characterized by its classic design and, above all, by its upholstery 18k goldand with a black dial that matches the iconic one Lotus del 1969. The watch in question, in fact, is inspired by the single-seaters of the British team that raced in Formula 1 in those years.

According to some estimates, this model barely exists anywhere in the world at the moment three hundred pieces. In short, a very difficult watch to see, except on Tom’s wrist. The American football icon, in fact, wore this timepiece in 2023, and then on the occasion of his induction into the Patriots Hall of Fame. Its value? Well, in this case we can only stick to the estimates of the last sale of a similar Rolex, this one which took place in 2020 in London – again through Sotheby’s – in which the accessory was purchased for well 1.350.000 euro.
