Trainer castling – Vienna Judo Regional Association

Some deserving coaches – like Klaus Peter Stollberg and Bela Riesz – are going into their well-deserved retirement, others – like the Pole Robert Krawczyk – are moving back to their homeland, but there are some new ones in red-white-red judo. After Jozef Krnacthe Slovakian Olympic silver medalist in Athens 2004 (up to 66 kilos) now follows with the Portuguese Miguel Ogando Lopes (@IJF) for the Linz Olympic base is another international capazunder. Coach castling in the ÖJV…

Lopes has a very good international reputation. The 37-year-old Portuguese is joining the ÖJV head coach as the new national coach of the general class Yvonne Snir-Bönisch and will work with the judoka at the base in Linz. He is the replacement for the outgoing Krawczyk. For the last five years, Lopes has worked for the German Judo Federation as a federal base trainer in Hanover, including the daily training work with the successful Olympians Giovanna Scoccimarro and Igor Wandtke responsible. Before that, the Portuguese also worked at the Leipzig base and as a national coach in Denmark.

“I’m looking forward to my next career step. So far I’ve only been an onlooker at the World Championships and Olympic Games. In Austria I have the chance to develop and establish myself in a top-class coaching team. The successes of the last few years speak for themselves. I didn’t have to think about it for long,” emphasizes Lopes, who – due to an injury – embarked on a coaching career early on. “Miguel had to end his active career at the age of 21 after two herniated discs. He already has a lot of international experience as a coach and should be a perfect fit for us,” confirms the ÖJV sports director Markus Moser.

Who shook a lot of hands in the last few days. The long-time Linz trainer Stollberg, once a successful judoka in the GDR and a supporter of ours Sabrina “Sabsi” Filzmoser (“He played a big part in my successes,” she says of Stolli”), was passed in October, and the Hungarian Riesz is retiring at the end of the year. The Under 23 European Championships in Pila (POL) was his last major tournament – with gold from Elena Dengg and bronze of the Viennese Magamed Birchashvilli a very successful one. “I’m neither particularly sad nor relieved. You retire at the age of 65 – that ultimately happens to everyone. This Under-23 European Championship was therefore a completely normal competition for me. But of course it was nice to hear the Austrian national anthem again. Elena really deserves this gold medal!”

There in the southern city Toni Summer resigned from his position for personal reasons (including that of vice president in the Vienna regional association), a replacement had to be found there too – with the 46-year-old Krnac they found an experienced man who knew a lot about the young people in the Südstadt model, especially floor techniques, can teach.

That’s not enough: Lisa Denggsister of the newly crowned U23 European champion, will be together with Welser from December 1st Michael Winklerlook after the offspring. The two bring with them the know-how as sports scientists. The two Viennese winds are in the east Martin Grafl and Bernhard Weißsteiner Young national coach. There’s a lot going on with the red-white-red coach castling…
