Video referee Ondřej Berka gave a sad performance in Saturday’s Sparta – Baník football league match. He did not point out to head referee Dalibor Černý that the home team’s goal should not have counted, nor the fact that Matěj Ryneš from Leten should have received a red card. Even Berk’s gross mistakes did not help the Praguers, they lost 1:3 against Ostrava.
The referees in Sparta first made a mistake in the 12th minute, when they recognized the home team’s Asger Sörensen’s goal to make it 1-0, even though the Danish defender played with his hand. Video referee Ondřej Berka should have intervened.
“A player of the home team touched the ball with his hand and scored a goal immediately afterwards. It was a foul, the VAR (video referee) incorrectly did not intervene,” the referees’ commission explained in a statement.
In the eighth minute of regulation, fullback Ryneš should have been sent off for a rough tackle on substitute Matúš Rusnák. Black gave him only a yellow card.
“It was about hitting the opponent in the head and neck area, it was a foul committed out of frustration and without trying to play the ball. VAR did not intervene wrongly,” the commission said.
Mistakes were also committed by Ondřej Pechanec, who should have awarded a second yellow card to Liberec’s Michal Hlavaté for tripping Marcel Cermák in České Budějovice in the 79th minute. Slovan played the full game at the Dynamo stadium and drew without goals.
“The referee erroneously did not award a second yellow card and subsequently a red card to a player of the visiting team for tripping the opponent. VAR did not intervene correctly according to the protocol,” the commission pointed out that the video referee cannot resolve the awarding of yellow cards.
In the 90th minute of Hradec Králové’s duel with Slavia, substitute Ondřej Mihálik fell in the penalty area after a fight with Jan Bořil, but referee Jan Beneš did not award a penalty and instead awarded the home player a yellow card for simulating. The match ended in a 1:1 draw.
“The referee did not order the penalty kick correctly. There was contact between the player of the away team and the home team, but it was not a foul. The referee then erroneously awarded a yellow card to the home player for simulation, it was not an obvious attempt to deceive him,” the commission said.
Based on the manual, the commission always publicly evaluates four situations chosen by the media.
