The badminton players from TSV Freystadt were champions in the 2nd Bundesliga South last season. The next matchday underlines that and how they have adjusted their goals this season. He leads TSV to TV 1884 Marktheidenfeld, a special team.
“For me, Marktheidenfeld is one of the top five teams in the 2nd Bundesliga South,” says Freystadt’s team manager Stephan Pistorius and adds: “At home.” The people of Freystadt have often felt the home strength of Lower Franconia. The team also lost there in the last championship season.
TSV Freystadt has respect for Michael Fuchs
A key reason for this is that at home games, Marktheidenfeld still has a very strong doubles and mix specialist in its ranks, Michael Fuchs, despite his 42 years. “These are still two secure points for Marktheidenfeld,” says Pistorius about the strength of the two-time Olympian Fuchs. In addition, according to Pistorius’ observations, the Lower Franconians have strengthened themselves well with the Swiss Lina Schadegg. “It will be a really tough nut to crack,” is how the TSV team manager judges the upcoming encounter.
All the more so as TSV Freystadt will not travel to Marktheidenfeld in the best condition. “Our line-up will not be the strongest,” says Pistorius. Illnesses and other appointments prevent several of the regular players from traveling. In addition, the game is the only one this weekend, which is why it would be too financially expensive for Freystadt to have its top players like the Serbian Viktor Petrovic travel. Only the Austrian Christian Tomic gets on the train from the team members who live further away and travels.
TSV Freystadt wants to stay at the top of the 2nd Bundesliga
Conversely, this means that local players in particular who are otherwise in the second tier get their chance. Players like Jannik Czerny, for example. But that was the goal before the season anyway, even if it makes it unlikely that TSV will repeat its strong championship season. “To become champions, you always have to compete with the best players,” says Pistorius. But that is not the goal this season, but rather to give all young players a chance and introduce them to the team.
In this way, the hardship of the away appearance in Marktheidenfeld becomes a virtue. “But we still want to get a point,” says team manager Pistorius, who wants to stay at the top. Despite the new direction, TSV is currently third in the table, only three points behind the leaders TuS Geretsried.
