The U23 team of Benfica received and beat Sporting (1-0), this Friday afternoon, November 1st, in a game of the 10th round of Series B of the 1st phase of the Revelation League.
The first half was short on opportunities, and the few that existed were all designed by the team trained by Vítor Vinha.
At 11′, Gonçalo Moreira climbed a few meters with the ball under controlplaced himself in a frontal position, shot hard and lowbut the goalkeeper, with a good defense, managed to avoid the goal.
Six minutes later it was Tiago Freitas breaking through the opponent’s defenseand shot at goal, but the ball was weak and the Leo guardian held on.
Within the last five minutes of the first half (41′), Karel Mustmaa even put the ball in the back of the netbut the referee had already whistled for offside.
At half-time, the scoreboard was 0-0.
Upon restart, the first sign of danger was given by Guilherme Peixotowho shot well, but over the top (53′).
Tiago Freitasat 69′, was very close to opening the scoring. Slouching on the right, the midfielder shot hard, neatly, but Guilherme Pires denied the goal with a good intervention.
At 79′, Sporting made their first shot, through Sandro Nascimento, and Arnas Voitinovicius responded in kind, with an excellent stretch.
But it was really Benfica who reached the goal. Beautiful work by Rodrigo Rêgo – entered minutes earlier to replace Tiago Freitas –, who, slumped on the left, delivered the ball to the edge of the area, where Tomás Cruz appeared to shoot into the back of the net (1-0, in the 86th minute).
Within the compensation period, Kyanno Silva was close to extending the leadbut his shot, on the left side of the attack, went close to the post.
Until the end, there is still a note for an expulsion at Sporting. João Infante saw a straight red card, after attacking Kyanno Silva (90’+6′).
A few minutes later, the game came to an end, with Benfica securing the triumph (1-0).
On the next journey, eagles visit Portimonense’s home, in a match in the 11th round of Series B of the 1st phase of the Revelation Leaguescheduled for November 10th, at 11:00 am, at Estádio dos Dois Irmãos.
DECLARATIONS
Vítor Vinha (Benfica coach): “We played an excellent game against a team that always tried to play on our mistakes, with a lower block and a line of five that was very difficult to get in there. We understood that very well, we worked very well on that. We had a lot of patience during the 90 minutes . Understanding where we had to go in. We had our opportunities here and there to do better, to get to the opponent’s goal better, we managed to settle in, until we managed to get the other team’s game plan. the only team that wanted to win.”
Tomás Cruz (Benfica midfielder): “It was a very difficult game, but we dominated from the first minute. We learned from [o que aconteceu na] last week. We played 90 minutes very consistently. This victory is very important. [O golo] The mister [Vítor] Vinha had warned that the Sporting team didn’t defend much at the edge of the area, I believed in my instinct, I shot and it was a good goal.”
