Caracas. The Urban Basketball Tournament was launched this November 21 in the 23 de Enero parish with the participation of six quintets.
The Under 22 category contest pays tribute to Nelson Soteldoa recently deceased professional basketball player. It will last until December 6 on the field in the La Cañada sector.
Under the motto “We are from the neighborhood”, the fair “intends to promote the development of basketball in popular areas and integrate communities.”
“The fields in the capital’s neighborhoods have served as training for the most outstanding players in the country and that is why we will continue that work,” recalled sports promoter Sioux Fernández, one of the organizers of the Urban Tournament, during the presentation.
Fernández led the formal events of the opening day and presented the official shirt of the event to Nancy de Soteldo, widow of the athlete honored in the competition.
Tournament schedule
On the first date, Pioneros de Caracas defeated Escuela Spartans 84-78; Libertadores Negro beat Piratas 79-72, and Libertadores Dorado beat Centauros 81-70.
The basketball action will continue this Friday, November 22 with the clashes between the Libertadores Negro teams against Libertadores Dorado (5:00 pm); Pirates against Escuela Spartans (7:00 pm) and Centaurs against Pioneers of Caracas (9:00 pm).
The elimination round of the Urban Basketball Tournament concludes next Friday, November 29. The All-Star Game is scheduled for December 3.
Next, the semifinals will be played on December 5 and the definition for the title and the third place game will be played on December 6.
