The NFL game in Munich is celebrated by German fans, but US fans are less enthusiastic. They joke, but also show compassion.
Munich – The Munich Game between the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants had just begun when the first mocking comments began to appear. Surprisingly, these did not come from the German spectators, but from the American fans, who sometimes had very clear words. One could almost get the impression that they would like to banish both teams to Germany for the entire season.
Harsh reactions to the NFL’s Munich Game
In 2022, the famous quarterback Tom Brady was a guest with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the first NFL guest game in Munich. Two years later, German fans had to settle for Daniel Jones (Giants) and Bryce Young (Panthers), which amused American football fans.
Still, some people didn’t want to miss the game, even if it made them feel a certain amount of self-loathing. A X-User asked for prayers after calling “getting up at 6 a.m. (note: due to the time difference) to watch Giants vs. Panthers” the “most sadistic thing I’ve done in a long time.”
American fans are keeping their fingers crossed for the German NFL spectators in Munich
In the US, the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants don’t seem to be particularly missed. In addition to ridicule and malice, some Americans also showed compassion for the German fans.
The statement “NFL hates Germany” was frequently commented on by US fans on social media, which is due to the unattractive fixture list. Some wished the German spectators in the stadium luck and hoped that the teams would show a better performance than in the previous season.
Disappointing performances from the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants in the current NFL season
Some casual NFL viewers may remember the Super Bowl final in February 2015 with the Carolina Panthers. But times have changed. Both the Panthers and the Giants have no chance of a successful season this season.
Before the game in Munich, the Carolina Panthers were in second-to-last place in the NFC South with two wins and seven losses in nine games. Before the match, the Giants also had seven losses and two wins and were in last place in the NFC East. However, German fans probably don’t care which teams the NFL sends, because the rush for tickets is unbroken.
In fact, the fans in Munich’s Allianz Arena really got their money’s worth at the Munich Game. Ultimately, the game went into extra time after a dramatic final phase. In the end, Carolina was able to secure the hard-fought victory with a field goal. (sch)
