UTN triumphs in national basketball: women’s and men’s champions

The title recently obtained in Colombia by the representatives of the Under 17 Basketball Team of the Northern Technical University (UTN).However, now, two new teams emerged as the best in a national interuniversity tournament.

The State University of Bolívar organized the National University Polytechnic, Military and Police Women’s and Men’s Basketball Tournament. Guaranda was the city that, from November 14 to 19, hosted the tournament, which saw the representatives of the most important higher education center in northern Ecuador crowned as queens and kings.

In the match for the title of the women’s branch, the red and white team measured forces with their counterparts from the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ).

In the development of a well-contested duel, the teams from the Universidad Técnica del Norte (UTN) ended up winning with a score of 78 to 64.

The UTN men’s team did not want to be left behind either and in the duel for the title of champion that they held against the Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo (Espoch) they ended up winning with a difference of 27 points. 91 to 64 was the final score of that match.

On the other hand, the UTN, in both teams, has basketball players who, in their collegiate days, won more than one title with their respective educational units. Furthermore, they were part of the province’s teams. For example: Hipatia Valencia and Ismael Cifuentes. The latter was part of the Piratas de los Lagos roster during its participation in the Ecuadorian Professional Basketball League.

Reaction

“Each championship is very different. The experience was very positive, since we were able to achieve the goal we had set for ourselves: to become national champions,” explained Santaigo Vallejos, coach of the UTN basketball teams.

The coach also mentioned that all the teams were very competitive and that the level was very high.
