Brex is making a good run in the league. After losing two in a row to the Chiba Jets in the opening round, they have won nine in a row. In terms of wins, they are tied with Chiba J and maintain second place in the East region. On the other hand, the playing time of young players has not increased much. Wataru Murakishi (27), who is in his second season of a professional contract, has only appeared in two games. Head coach Kevin Braswell says that the growth of young players, who are “sure to come alive at the end of the season,” is essential to winning the league championship this year. We caught up with Murakishi’s workout on his voluntary practice day and asked him about his current state of mind and future plans. It will be delivered in two parts.

“To be frank, there are some parts that are frustrating…”

Tuesday, October 29th, Nikkan Arena Tochigi, just before 10am.

There are five doors to enter the sub-arena, but one of them was about a third open. I can hear the sound of a ball bouncing and faint voices.

Murakishi was under the goal closest to the entrance, along with Atsuya Ogawa and assistant coach Masato Tanaka.

“I came at 9 o’clock today.”

Workout start time is 10am. Murakishi seems to be serious as he starts preparing an hour before the race.

This day’s workout is only for those who wish to participate. In addition to Murakishi and Ogawa, four other young players, Shinji Takashima and Yudai Ishikawa, were also in attendance.

“When we start the season, we often have Mondays off and Tuesdays for voluntary practice. If there is a Wednesday night game, Thursday is voluntary practice. We always have voluntary practice days.”

Murakishi usually doesn’t step on the court one day a week. There are almost no “long weekends” during the off-season.

Practice has begun. First, stand under the goal and spin the ball into the basket. Repeat the layup, alternating with your right hand, then your left.
