Varadero opens its doors to the future of Pan American judo › Sports › Granma

Varadero was the venue chosen to finalize the competitive calendar of the Pan American Judo Confederation (CPJ), with the holding of the continental championship of the U-13 and U-15 categories.

“After 59 events, in nine countries, we are going to close this 2024. It seems like it was yesterday that we opened this Olympic year and now, at the doors of closure, we open a window towards the new cycle of Los Angeles-2028,” said José Humberto Rodríguez, general director of the CPJ, at the drawing ceremony.

The manager added that “this tournament in Varadero, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, where we have promised beach, sun and judo, concludes the year, but opens a window for these young people, who perhaps very soon will represent their countries in the next summer event, and in Brisbane-2032.

He also assured that by 2025 “we will have many surprises.”

470 judokas are registered for the event, between both categories, with representatives from nations such as the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Chile, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Paraguay, Canada, Puerto Rico, Bolivia, Uruguay and the host Cuba.

Rafael Manso, president of the Cuban Federation of the discipline, on behalf of said institution and Inder, expressed the great honor of organizing Judo competitions in Cuba again, and the commitment to holding the U-13 and U Pan American Championships. -15.

The II Junior Pan American Games will take place in the capital of Paraguay next year, and in this regard the CPJ updated the classification ranking for the competition.

After the Montreal-2024 Pan American Cup, the last event of the category this year, there are only two scoring competitions left to conclude the process.

The two events are scheduled for the month of April, first the Junior Pan American Cup, based in Panama (the 6th) and then the Junior Pan American Championship, in Peru (the 19th).

Paraguay, as host, is guaranteed a place in each weight category, in both genders. By ranking, the seven best in each division will qualify, at a rate of only one athlete per country.

To date, based on the criteria described, six Cubans are in the classification zone.
