“I’m doing well, I feel in good shape,” confided Damien Seguin four days before the start of the Vendée Globe – scheduled for November 10 – this solo, unassisted and non-stop round-the-world trip in which 40 skippers are setting off. Here he left for almost three months at sea, on his 18.28 m sailboat, Imoca category, equipped with foils, these “water wings” fixed under the hull which allow it to be lifted and gain speed. He does not hide his ambition to do better than the official 7th place obtained during his previous edition in 2020, which also marked his first participation.
Its sponsor, the Apicil mutual group which has supported it since 2018, has provided more resources for this. If we ignore the amount of the budget, it is not difficult to estimate it at several million euros. The purchase of the refurbished winning boat of the last Vendée Globe adds a reinforced team and four years of preparation, not two like last time.
