Perhaps he wanted to silence criticism of his slight clumsiness at the start of the season? Against the Washington Wizards, on the night of Wednesday November 13 to Thursday November 14, Victor Wembanyama delivered an immense performance by scoring 50 of the Spurs’ 139 points (139-130 victory), in 32 minutes played. He thus becomes the second Frenchman to reach 50 points in the NBA after the 55 points scored by Tony Parker in November 2008 against Minnesota, a match which ended in overtime.

Victor Wembanyama’s previous record stood at 40 points in March against the Knicks in overtime. But facing his compatriots Bilal Coulibaly and the rookie Alexandre Sarr on Wednesday evening, the Spurs giant showed himself mercilessly, with eight three-point baskets, his record. He is the fourth youngest player in NBA history to reach the 50-point mark, after Brandon Jennings, LeBron James (twice) and Devin Booker.

“It’s definitely a milestone. It’s kind of a private club. It’s definitely something I’m proud of, welcomed Victor Wembanyama after the meeting, still showing himself to be ambitious. I want the content of our next matches to make us forget my performance this evening. Let it just be an evening like any other.”
