the essential
Étoile Sportive de Gimont achieved a valuable success against Avrillé, 63-53, this Saturday, November 9, after making things difficult during a nightmarish second quarter.
The game started at a brisk pace, Gimont stifling Avrillé with his defensive intensity. Despite a clumsiness that would last the entire game, ESG managed to outrun the overwhelmed Avrillaises, who only managed to score their first basket after almost 5 minutes of play. At the siren, Gimont led 15-8, the evening promised to be successful.
New black hole…
Error ! The second period turned into a nightmare for the Gersoises. Becoming amorphous in defense, not very collective in attack and as clumsy as ever, they were stepped on by the suddenly precise Maine-et-Loire players, who scored 13 points more than the locals, thanks in particular to an excellent Amandine Bry, author of 14 points in these 10 minutes alone. At halftime, the visitors led 27-33.

The return from the locker room did not necessarily augur better days for the “Étoilistes”, dominant inside but often incapable of scoring, even from close range. Pauline Dambrun, below, Sarah Albinet and Lola Marin, from afar or in penetration, had to wake up for Gimont to resume his march forward. 43-47 was the score at the end of the quarter.

“We are a big collective force”
Sarah Albinet: “We need to be the five involved in defense to be effective on both sides of the floor. When we are in difficulty, we have to stay focused on the collective rather than playing individually, because we are a big collective force. I think that’s what we understood about this match. »
